Some geeks who run a blog are off to America. Yeah, baby! DoubleGeek is off to the geekiest place on earth!
At DoubleGeek, we like to say our mission is to make the world a geekier place. Well, one place doesn’t need geeking up, and that’s America. I know you know someone who constantly needs help with tech, but you’ve never been to Africa. Even here in South Africa, one of Africa’s more first world countries, people give you strange looks when you suggest doing anything more techie than downloading an app on your phone. Just why?
I’m not saying America is full of nerds, but let me give you some rather vauge numbers. At DoubleGeek, almost all of our views come from the US, and every single one of the blogs I read every morning are based in the US. So America is just about as techie as it needs to be.
Speaking as a geek, I would like to say that one of the main (but by no means looming) dissapointments of the trip is that we won’t be going to San Francisco, AKA Silicon Valley. Instead, we’ll be going to Orlando, which I suppose is good in the way it subtracts about three hours from the mighty jet lag. I’ve never had it, because I never go more than about two hours from my domicile. I would say about the closest thing I’ve ever had to jet lag is feeling like lunch at 11:00 after getting back to England (my then-home) from a holiday in Israel.
Okay, now I’m boring you. The main reason I wrote this is to warn you there will be no posts on Friday and probably not on Thursday. At DoubleGeek, we’re rather lenient on posting but we will be more so in the US. In fact, we’ll be staying in Disney World (Dolphin Hotel, since you ask) for most of the trip.
Of course, we won’t pass up the chance to geek out. John’s already set aside at least an afternoon in one of America’s Apple Stores of Greatness, so expect his article on that. I will probably be getting a new Kindle Paperwhite (They don’t have Amazon here) so expect my article on that. Until then (not including the days leading up to Thursday), So long, pal!
